Dionysus launches from his bachanal throne the bursts of festivities, orgiastic libations and spring festivals. God of the vine, of wine and its excesses, ancient Divine Fire, he inspires humans in their madness and excess. He is the son of Zeus and the mortal Semele. According to Orphism, he’d be the son of Demeter or Persephone. Perhaps he is the divine figure who most embodies excessiveness, exaggeration and exuberance?
