“Hornet’s Nest“ - this is how the NATO classifies submarine base station of the Pacific Fleet in Kamchatka. This Russian naval base is the closest to the United States. It is from this point in the Pacific Ocean that Russian nuclear submarine cruisers with nuclear missiles on board leave for combat duty. At the same time it’s one of the harshest places of service for submariners on the planet: half a year Krasheninnikov Bay, the home for the submarines, is ice-bound while only three summer months can be considered snowless.
