Drisa Kone Quartet - Sandia

Sandia is also called jelifòli or jelidòn (griots’ dance). It’s a piece from western Mali, region of Kayes, originally played on “Khasonka dundun“ (called dundunba or dundungo in Khasonka-land; also called jelidunun in Bamako). It was transformed into a jembe piece probably in Bamako, perhaps in the 1960s or so.
