A settlement grew here from 1750 with the discovery of the rivers Kizel and Small Kizel iron ore deposits. The first mine opened in 1786. Following the discovery of coal, the town developed rapidly. In 1926, Kizel was granted town status and throughout the 1930 and 1950s was a major steel making centre. Today, though, all this is history. Coal mining ceased in 2000………….
