Heavy rains plunged Germany’s Frankfurt airport into chaos on Wednesday night, leading to the cancelation of about 100 flights and numerous delays. The rain flooded the runway, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded on planes for hours. Videos posted on social media showed that most of the runway was covered in water. Ground services at the airport had to be stopped altogether for more than two hours. More than 20 flights bound for Frankfurt were diverted to other airports. The airport operator said in a statement that yesterday’s weather conditions will affect Thursday’s flight schedule and could lead to further cancelations and delays.
