Today switching is digital and computer based; but years ago calls were connected by clattering behemoth electromechanical switching systems, some with racks 14 feet tall, motor driven, with clutches and commutators and rods with brushes that scamper up and down. Ken takes us through the evolution of telephone switching systems.
