Darkchild on Producing Destiny’s Child #1 Hit ’Say My Name’, Original Beat was Wack (Part 15)

Part 16: Part 14: Part 1: -------- Rodney “Darkchild“ Jerkins talked about owning the number one spot on the Billboard Top 100 list for 25 out of the 52 weeks in a year following the release of Destiny Child’s “Say My Name.“ Darkchild said the song is his favorite song that he’s produced and was the first song he produced for the group.  He revealed that the original beat was completely different and was inspired by the 2-step sound that the Spice Girls introduced him to. However, Destiny’s Child, the label, Matthew Knowles all hated the beat and it wasn’t until Darkchild was mixing the beat that he ultimately agreed and made the new beat on the spot.
