Jiang Cheng tribute - Wrong Side of Heaven (MDZS AMV)
„Arms wide open, I stand alone,
I’m no hero, and I’m not made of stone”
First of all, I dedicate this video to Saeki – she suggested the song, which is just perfect for Jiang Cheng. Sorry it took so long, to make this video!
Second – I always always knew I have to make a video about this character, and as inspired as I was by „I see fire”, I do regret a bit not starting with him… because I can say he is one of my, if not my favourite character of MDZS. For me, Jiang Cheng represents the fact that love can bring you through anything. As long as you are still able to give love, to care about people around you, no matter how much you suffered, you are not truly broken. Because, as I read the story, I just got the feeling that he suffers the most out of all the main characters, with the least reason. He is neglected by his father from the moment he is born – he gets love and appreciation from his mother, but it’s not enough. He is always in the shadow of Wei Wuxian. He is strong, talented, stubborn, and a fighter, but no matter how hard he tries, he can never reach him or surpass him. Later he loses his whole family, his city burns down, he has no knowledge of his sister. He loses his golden core, then, after a time, despite his efforts to support him, Wei literally chooses the Wens instead of him. Finally, he loses Yanli, too, and gets fed up, it seems like he won’t stand up again from the hate and bitterness… but he does. He becomes an amazing uncle to Jin Ling, a good Sect Leader, and even if their relationship will never be the same, eventually forgives to Wei Wuxian as well. In some way, he represents color purple well – he may be headstrong, but he does have a certain spirituality in the fact that he is able to love unconditionally.
Wrong side of heaven is a song, that represents partly his relationship with his parents (Jiang Fengmian „the devil” – the one he tried to please, but never could, and in the end still walked in his footsteps („He looked a lot like me), and Madam Yu „the god” – the parent he could see in a positive light, and who mostly influenced his personality („she sounded just like me”)), his struggle to stay strong, stay alive, and be capable of love through everything („Arms wide open, I stand alone”), and also his struggle, to do what’s right, as any human would („Right or wrong, I can hardly tell”). I hope you enjoy the video!
