Appeal to the representatives of educational religious institutions for the protection of the KTA

Дорогі брати й сестри у Христі! Шановні члени релігійних громад та всі люди доброї волі! Мене звати архімандрит Філарет (Волошин), я є проректором з навчально-методичної роботи Київської духовної академії та семінарії, яка знаходиться безпосередньо в самому серці найдавнішого монастиря України. У цей один із найважчих для нашої країни часів, коли Росія розв’язала війну проти України, я хотів би розповісти вам про критичну ситуацію в центрі Києва — у стародавній Києво-Печерській Лаврі. Лавра — це один з найважливіших монастирів для православних християн у всьому світі. Наша велика лаврська родина складається з двохсот монахів, трьохсот студентів, які прагнуть бути православними священниками, і трьохсот робітників. 29 березня ці сотні людей ризикують втратити свій центр молитви, свої домівки, свою школу та виноградник, де вони трудяться на славу Божу. Сотні наших студентів, молодих українців, переважно віком від 17 до 21 років, можуть бути вигнані на вулицю, навіть без можливості закінчити цей навчальний рік. Наш український уряд штучно вирішив розірвати договір оренди постійного користування церквою, підписаний у 2013 році, навіть не пояснивши нам чому. Наші викладачі та студенти навчалися в різних університетах по всьому світу. Православні, римо-католики та протестанти сповідують різні доктрини, але всіх нас об’єднує ідея рівних прав людини, а також віри в Образ Божий і його шанування, яким наділені всі люди. Цю ідею завжди сповідували студенти та професори нашої Академії, починаючи з її заснування святителем Петром Могилою у 17 столітті. Віряни нашої Церкви на чолі з Блаженнійшим Митрополитом Київським і всієї України Онуфрієм виборюють мир. Родичі багатьох наших студентів служать у лавах Збройних Сил України. Без впевненості, що їхні рідні – їхні діти чи брати, можуть продовжувати навчання в семінарії та молитися за них, тисячі наших українських воїнів, які також є серед наших мільйонів парафіян, можуть зневіритися. Їм дуже важливо знати, що в Лаврі, біля мощей Києво-Печерських святих, за них моляться Богу. Ми сподіваємося, що з Вашою допомогою ми зможемо продовжувати служити Богу, щоб був відновлений мир у вільній і демократичній Україні, де кожен може молитися Богу, як він чи вона хоче, дотримуючись наших цінностей, які поважають права людини, особливо релігійні права! My name is Archimandrite Filaret Voloshyn, I am a vice rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary which is situated directly in the heart of the most ancient monastery in Ukraine. In this, one of the most difficult times for our country, during Russia’s war against Ukraine, I would like to speak to you about a critical situation in the center of Kyiv — in the ancient Kyiv Caves Lavra. This is one of the most important monasteries for all Orthodox Christians in the whole world. Our big Lavra family consists of 200 (two hundred) monks, 300 students who aspire to be orthodox priests, and three hundred workers. On March 29, these hundreds of people risk losing their center of prayer, their homes, their school, and the vineyard where they labor for the glory of God. Hundreds of our students, young Ukrainians mostly around age 17-21 could be driven out onto the street, even without the possibility to finish this academic year. Our Ukrainian government has tragically decided to break the lease contract for permanent church use, signed in 2013, without even explaining to us why. Our teachers and students have studied in different universities throughout the entire world. Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Protestant Christians believe in many different doctrines, but we are all united by the idea of the same human rights, and of believing in, and venerating the Image of God, which all humans are endowed with. This is the central idea that the students and professors of our Academy have always believed and studied, since its founding by St. Peter Mohyla in the 17th century. The believers of our Church, led by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and all Ukraine, are fighting for peace. Many of our students have relatives in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Without the certainty that their relatives - their children or brothers, can continue to study in the seminary and pray for them, thousands of our Ukrainian soldiers, who are also among our millions of parishioners, can become demoralized. It is very important for them to know that there are people praying to God for them in the Lavra, at the relics of the saints of the Kyivan Caves. We hope that with your help we will be able to continue serving God, in order to make peace in a free and democratic Ukraine, where everyone can pray to God as he or she wants, following our western values, which respect human rights, especially religious rights!
