Access Blocked For Decades – Fire Made It Accessible Again: Part 2 of 2
I hope you’ve seen both videos in this series… I say that because it is almost unbelievable that the adit shown in the first video is part of the same mine. That first adit was wet, muddy and dangerous. By contrast, the part of the mine seen in this video was dry, open and, well, maybe a little dangerous, but nothing like that first adit. The artifacts found in this part of the mine provide some idea of what might have been hidden in the mud of the first adit.
I would love to have seen what was on the surface before the wildfire swept through, but there was simply no way to access the mine through the impenetrable brush that surrounded the site. Finding untouched, unexplored sites like this one is something of a “holy grail” quest for mine explorers.
As a reminder, gold ore was discovered at this site in the late 1800s and, in the early 1900s, tens of thousands of ounces of gold and silver were successfully extracted. The mine also produced small amounts of tungsten, lead and copper.
