A magnitude 6.8 quake hit Mexico’s Pacific coast, the second powerful quake in the region this week. A 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Mexican state of Michoacán early this morning, the second powerful earthquake in the region this week. The quake hit shortly after 1:00 am, just three days after a 7.6 magnitude quake rocked western and central Mexico, killing two people. The US Geological Survey said the quake occurred in the western state of Michoacán near the Pacific coast. The epicenter was about 29 miles south-southwest of Aguililla, Michoacan, at a depth of about 15 miles. The USGS originally rated Thursday’s quake at 7.0 but later downgraded it to 6.8.
