US Republicans drop Jim Jordan as nominee as House Speaker drama continues
Republicans abruptly dropped Rep. Jim Jordan on Friday as their nominee for House Speaker after the ally of former president Donald Trump failed on a third ballot for the gavel.
House Republicans appear to have no working plan to unite the fractured GOP majority, elect a new speaker and return to the work of Congress, which has been languishing since hard-liners ousted Kevin McCarthy at the start of the month.
Without a Speaker, the House is unable to function for the forseaable future — an embarrassing blow to a central U.S. seat of power.
Reggie Checchini has more on the search for a new Republican House leader.
