Danzig Baldaev secretly documented the horrors of the Gulags he had witnessed first hand in his work traveling throughout the vast ’Gulag Archipelago’ in the USSR. He was given the task by the NKVD to document the many tattoos the Russian mafia and criminal underworld used in order to form a national catalogue for the police, but he also secretly drew scenes of mass murder, torture, rape, and slave labor he had seen throughout his work, later to be published in a vast collection of 150 drawings in ’Drawing
