We usually associate Manmohan Desai, the king of ‘Masala’ movies with the lost & found multi-starrers, made between mid-70s and late 80s. But he directed several blockbuster hits across genres in the early 70s also. Two of such hits were SACHAA JHUTHA (1970) & ROTI (1974), both of which starred the hit pair of the day, viz. Rajesh Khanna & Mumtaz. So it’s a ‘Double Dhamaka’ celebration in the 7th Episode of Golden Classics as we re-visit ‘Sachaa Jhutha’ & ‘Roti’. Both films were directed with great panache by Desai and had very interesting storylines. In fact, ‘Sachaa Jhutha’ was a major source of inspiration for Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Don’.
