Terra Ca Nun Senti (folk song in Sicilian/English) - Amanda Pascali
Being frustrated with your hometown/land is a universal sentiment.
The bureaucracy, the corruption of those in power, the closed mindset of so many people around you. This folk song was written about Sicily, but it could just as well be about my homeland: Texas, or anywhere else around the world. I believe that to truly love where you come from, you must also be frustrated with it. It is precisely that love that makes you frustrated.
I am translating Sicilian songs like this one not because they sound more beautiful in English, but to open them up to the rest of the world and in doing so, show the universality of their themes in the 21st century.
