The Battle of Dead Buffalo Lake (ND Indian Wars I) : 2W1C S03E72

As I miserably cross the North Dakotan plains in the middle of a rainstorm, I can’t help but think how tame this is compared to what the early settlers of the region had to contend with. The Dakota Territory was one of the last regions of the United States to be settled by whites in part due to the fact there was such a Native American presence here. The Dakota, Lakota, Nakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes held this region and they weren’t particularly friendly to soldiers marching in on their turf. After the Dakota War of 1862, the United States sought to push an armed presence beyond the Minnesotan borders to secure vital trade routes from Canada. Incredibly, two major players of the Wild Western Native Campaigns met head to head in a series of battles as it was reported Sitting Bull himself rose to the challenge to meet the hostile white threat. This video is the first of two where we follow Sibley’s Expedition into what is today’s North Dakota. ****************************↓FOLLOW ME HERE↓************************************ - - Patreon: - Twitter: - Instagram: - Facebook: - Reddit: ******************************************************************************** ROYALTY FREE MUSIC BY: “Opium“ Kevin MacLeod () Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License
