Shostakovich: Symphony No. 7

Dmitri Shostakovich began composing his 7th Symphony in Leningrad and later finished in Samara in December 1941. Symphony No. 7, also known as Leningrad, was first dedicated to Lenin and was later submitted in honor of the besieged city of Leningrad. The Symphony became popular in both the Soviet Union and the west as a symbol of resistance to fascism and totalitarianism.
