J.S. Bach - LARGO from Double Violin Concerto BWV 1043 (Organ Solo)

Roberto Bertero at the Gustavo Zanin Organ of Turin’s Rita Sanctuary (Italy). - Recording dating back to the year 1998 - In this video I am playing my organ transcription of the second movement, Largo, excerpt from the Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV 1043 (also known as the Double Violin Concerto) by J.S. Bach. A violin concerto of the Late Baroque era, undoubtedly one of the composer’s most successful works. Bach composed this Concerto around 1730, as part of a concert series he ran as the Director of the Collegium Musicum in Leipzig. This masterpiece is characterized by a subtle yet expressive relationship between the violins throughout the work. In addition to the two soloists, the concerto is scored for strings (first violin, second violin and viola parts) and basso continuo. The musical structure of this piece uses fugal imitation and much counterpoint. Since I’ve recorded this piece only as audio (and not video), I’ve thought to provide a “visual commentary“ inserting some photographs of mine taken during my hiking expeditions on the Alps. I didn’t record this video at the Consolata Sanctuary organ, but at the Gustavo Zanin organ, located in the Parish of Santa Rita in Turin (Italy).
