Antonio Caldara (c. 1670–1736) was an influential Italian Baroque composer, known for his prolific output of operas, oratorios, and cantatas. Born in Venice, Caldara’s musical talent was evident from a young age, leading him to study under Giovanni Legrenzi. He held prestigious positions throughout Europe, including at the court of Charles VI in Vienna, where he became Vice-Kapellmeister. Caldara’s music is noted for its melodic richness and expressive depth, blending the Italian and German styles. His extensive body of work had a significant impact on the development of Baroque music, and he remains a key figure in the history of early 18th-century opera and sacred music.
