Cleaning Swans (1957)

Ilford, Essex. Various shots show swans with oil-stained feathers being cleaned at the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals. They are washed in a soapy bath, rinsed in clean water then given a bran bath to dry out the feathers. A girl goes into the swan coup to pour some food in their trough. Note: cameraman’s notes on file say the swans were covered in oil following an oil barge sinking at Vauxhall in December 1956. For search purposes: PDSA, . FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
