Full title reads: “A monarchy for Greece - enthusiastic scenes in Athens“. Athens, Greece. General Condylis (aka General Georgios Kondylis), leader of Royalist Party, announces abolition of republic and return to monarchy. A national plebiscite (referendum) will take place. Army installed to stop opposition protests. L/S of city with Parthenon monument on Acropolis hill in distance. Various shots of Condylis . We see him getting into car and driving past cheering crowds. ’Evzones’ (Greek Infantry with tutu style uniforms) hold back the crowd. Various shots of man distributing leaflets to crowd, some men in crowd play battered brass instruments. M/S of soldier sitting in front of rows of army rucksacks and rifles. C/U of soldiers cleaning their guns. M/S of Greek ex-sovereign, King George II of Greece, standing on boat in military uniform. M/S of Greek soldiers march, they seem in good spirits.
