We are sleepwalking to dystopia - UN rights chief Volker Turk to Human Rights Council | #HRC57

On 9 September 2024, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk updated the UN Human Rights Council on pressing human rights issues worldwide. In an expansive speech that examined broad trends concerning human rights today, Mr. Turk said that the world faced a choice: “We can either continue on our current path—a treacherous ‘new normal’—and sleepwalk into a dystopian future. Or we can wake up and turn things around for the better, for humanity and the planet.“ Mr. Turk was speaking on the first day of the Human Rights Council’s 57th session, which was scheduled to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, until 11 October 2024. #HRC57
