Afghanistan’s Supercar Simurgh Shocks the Automotive Industry
Afghanistan has surprised the automotive world by unveiling its first-ever indigenous supercar, the Simurgh, at the Geneva Motor Show in Qatar. Produced by Kabul-based company Entop, the supercar seeks to redefine global perceptions of Afghanistan amidst recent challenges like the Taliban takeover and the pandemic.
Mohammad Reza Ahmadi, CEO of Entop and the chief engineer and designer of the project, aims to showcase a lesser-seen innovative side of Afghanistan. The Simurgh sports a unique and sleek design that has drawn comparisons to the Batmobile. While there are certain design imperfections, its intent remains clear: to position Afghanistan in the global automotive spotlight.
Powered by a modified four-cylinder engine similar to a 2004 Toyota Corolla, Entop has plans to upgrade the Simurgh to an all-electric powertrain. Ahmadi’s ambitions extend beyond showcasing; he aims to have the Simurgh compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours race. To do so, Entop seeks $49 million to refine and make the car race-ready. Ahmadi intends to initiate sales post the Le Mans event. The Simurgh stands as a symbol of innovation and resilience, even in trying times.
