Class V Riverboarding - Mike McVey - Complete descent of Sandy Stream IV-V in Maine

On July 3, 2013 Mike McVey completed a FULL riverboard descent of Sandy Stream, a classic class IV and V creek in the state of Maine. Rumor has it Brent Detamore ran the stream but did not run the final rapid, Crusher. Mike had previously kayaked Sandy Stream a few times and when we arrived at the put-in I think it was already in his head that there would be no walking. Because of the style of creek several of the drops land on rocks and mank not friendly to riverboarders, but that didn’t stop Mike. With full on Six Six One body armor, a Sweet Protection full face and a life jacket Mike was ready for battle. He successfully ran every rapid, including the infamous “Crusher“ which is commonly walked by even the best paddlers.
