Endoscopy On Rescued Harbour Porpoise Reveals Worms
Vancouver Aquarium staff veterinarian Dr. Martin Haulena performs an endoscopy on Levi the rescued harbour porpoise currently under care at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre.
As part of our normal work up for any stranded cetacean our medical team performs an endoscopy like this one. This procedure was particularly important for Levi because he was showing us some vomiting. The endoscopy revealed parasitic worms in the first chamber of his stomach. Although parasites are normal in most wild animals, due to the location of these worms in the first chamber of his stomach they could be the cause of the vomiting. Dr. Haulena has treated Levi for these parasites.
