GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Wild () | Kasperi Kapanen’s Hat Trick

After a big overtime win against their cross-state rivals, the Penguins set their sights on Minnesota. This would be the final game of Pittsburgh’s franchise-record eight-game homestand before the team would head off on the road again. Kaprizov opened the scoring for Minnesota. Kasperi Kapanen, however, had the answer. Kapanen scored the next two goals, giving Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead heading into the 2nd period. Jake Guentzel tallied his second goal in as many games, but Spurgeon deflected in a shot to keep Minnesota within one. The stage was set for Kasperi Kapanen’s first career hat trick. Kapanen had scored two goals in a game six times throughout his career, but never was able to get the third one to go in. That drought was finally broken. Kapanen’s hat trick made it 4-2 in favor of the black and gold. Spurgeon would go on to score again, and then Hartman scored with under three seconds left in regulation to tie things up, 4-4.
