King Constantine II of Greece has died aged 82. The last King of Greece, Constantine ascended to the throne in 1964, but was forced to flee the country following a military coup in April 1967. The Monarchy was formally abolished in Greece a few years later, on 1 June 1973. Here, Constantine II is seen at the wedding of his son and heir, Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece, to Marie-Chantal Miller. The wedding was also attended by Constantine II’s second cousin and close friend, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, as well Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. As well as being Charles’ second cousin, Constantine II was also godfather to Charles’ first son, Prince William.
