’The Queen Jokes with Hospital Staff and Patients’
The Queen has marked the opening of the Royal London Hospital’s Queen Elizabeth Unit on a video call with hospital staff and patients.
The Queen paid tribute to NHS key workers and heard about their experiences of working on the front line of healthcare during the pandemic.
The 155-bed critical care unit is one of the biggest in the country and was built in just five weeks, in response to rising patient numbers.
Impressed with the speed at which the team operated, and the care they’ve given to patients during the pandemic, Her Majesty said: “It’s amazing, isn’t it, what can be done, when needs be?... Thank you very much indeed, all of you.”
