J.S. Bach: Was mein Gott will, das g’scheh allzeit, BWV 111 - The Church Cantatas, Vol. 167

Cantata 111 ‘Was mein Gott will, das gscheh allzeit’ is a so-called chorale cantata by reason of the fact that it is based on a chorale melody, as so often in Bach’s music. The melody of the same name is heard clearly in the soprano of the large-scale opening chorus and the simple final chorale. The cantata was written for 21 January 1725, the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany (6 January). In the text the faithful are urged to accept God’s will, the recitative (No.3) recalling the story of Jonah who tried in vain to turn away from God. The dance-like duet (No.4) for alto and tenor depicts the optimism and trust of the faithful, even in the face of death. Composer: Johann Sebastian Bach Artists: Netherlands Bach Collegium, Pieter Jan Leusink (conductor), Holland Boys Choir, Bas Ramselaar (Basso), Sytse Buwalda (Alto), Nico van der Meel (Tenore) & Ruth Holton (Soprano) 🎵Online purchase or streaming (Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, Deezer): 🎬🎮 These tracks are availabl
