Finally An Honest Video On Rome’s First Emperor Augustus

The First Roman Emperor. A lot of people mistakingly believe that it was Julius Caesar — a man many think established the Roman Empire. That is not correct. Although... I see where they are coming from, because Caesar definitely set his successor up for... success: Emperor August Caesar, born as Gaius Octavius, but best known as Octavian... he was the one who built the Roman Empire as we know it. But in order to do that, Augustus had to battle the other man that followed in Caesar’s footsteps: Mark Antony. So this video is kind of as much about Mark Antony as it is about Augustus. Both were fighting over who would rule Rome, and... Cleopatra also plays a major role in this store, as you’ll see in the video. So this video is quite star studded, which is why I couldn’t help myself and just had to make it an hour long — we’re talking about Rome’s first emperor after all, so I had to deliver on this first episode of: Rome’s Greatest Emperors: Augustus Caesar Notes: Man... a lot of notes for this one. This video is already an hour long as it is, but there are still a lot of things I had to leave out, or else... we’d be looking at a feature film length video. First of all... it fascinates me how close Mark Antony came to ruling Rome. Consider that history is written by the winners, so Augustus would have done anything to diminish Mark Antony, and still... his story is one that paints him as Augustus’ greatest rival. Mark Antony as Rome’s Emperor definitely would be an interesting What If... Not sure if anybody reads these notes, but if you...: Let me know what you think: Could Antony have conquered Rome and what would history be like if he did? I also don’t mention the fact that Augustus exiled his own daughter Julia, for breaking the morality laws, which just goes to show how serious he was about them. Except of course... when he broke the laws. Another major part I couldn’t cover is how Antony’s wife tried to overthrow Augustus, shortly before Mark Antony was married to Octavian’s sister. A fun little side story with very bloody consequences... maybe I should explore it in another video... Get All My Artwork & Support The Channel: I get a lot of questions about my artwork and where it’s from or rather who draws it. Well the answer is that I create it — I don’t draw it. I use AI to create the artwork, using specific prompts, specific style influences from 18th and 19th century artists, and I spend about 10 hours per video just on the artwork. Each video has roughly double the artwork of what you actually see in the video, so a lot of it is unused. The good news here though is that you can get all that artwork on my Patreon — the artwork I do use, and the artwork I don’t use. Plus, by subscribing to my Patreon you are making a major contribution to Briefed and helping me to keep this channel going, because this is my full time job and the survival of the channel and quality of the videos greatly depends on said support. In return for supporting, you get more than the artwork though — you also get exclusive videos and producer credit, as well as access to a producer group that gets to vote on thumbnails, gets behind the scenes etc. If you choose to become a Patron — thank you. I do not take it for granted. Footage: I used a lot of clips from Rome’s HBO, and the footage when I talk about the war in Germania is from Netflix’ ’Barbarians’. The phone call scene is from Taken, and the scene in the dark cave is from Dracula Untold, while the Bane scene is from ’The Dark Knight Rises’.
