Snorkeling and Swimming at Wilson Creek Wild and Scenic River.

Carole and I drove up on Friday morning to Wilson Creek hoping to beat the crowds to a specific swimming hole that has a sandy beach. We don’t even go to Wilson Creek on weekends and holidays anymore because of the crowds, noise, and trash left behind by inconsiderate jerks. But weekdays are a different matter, even on Fridays. While we didn’t have the place to ourselves (and didn’t expect to), there were not too many people at the spot we prefer. The water wasn’t as clear as I’m accustomed because people had already stirred up the sand. I did manage to see some fish while snorkeling, including one large brook trout. I also managed to fall once, suffering an abrasion on my left arm. And, when leaving, I blundered into some yellowjackets a passing woman had stirred up and the insects targeted me. I ended up suffering 13 stings. So, while I had a good time snorkeling and sunbathing, I paid for the experience.
