The title bolsters the above observation that creatively, and perhaps personally as well, Bastille is pondering any time but the present. “survivin’” was one of the most incisive life-in-a-pandemic tracks of the COVID era. It also showcased the Brit band’s skill at blending indie-electro sounds into its pop palette. We’ve all lived through the brain-scrambling frustrations of the last two years, so when Smith looks into the camera and repeats “fuck ’em all” over and over again in his studio performance of “No Bad Days,” or when he lists the litany of dystopian realities in “Plug In…,” there’s no problem understanding his exasperated reaction to our blurry future.
