Imagine Paris in the 1920’s, the Roaring Twenties. It is the height of the jazz age, Paris is the centre of modernism in art and design and after the horrors of the 1st World War, society is changing fast. It is more egalitarian and the French along with everyone else, is ready to party. Enter a young Polish refugee from Russia, a modern woman, a larger-than-life character, a libertine and social climber destined to make her mark. Her paintings, Cubist inspired, combined the traditions of Ingres and Caravaggio with lavish decoration and the style and sophistication of her sitters.
