2023 Mazda MX5 Review: Still sublime?

It’s been around for well over 30 years, and in that time, the Mazda MX-5 has become by far and away the world’s best-selling two-seater sports car. Why? Two reasons. Firstly, it’s light which makes it both enormous fun to drive and affordable to run. Secondly, it’s affordable. Quite simply, any other sports car that delivers even a fraction of the fun an MX-5 can will cost you (as near as makes no difference) twice as much. That being the case, time is running out for cars like the MX-5. The relentless march toward total electrification mean that both lightness and affordability will become increasingly difficult to serve up in the future.
