How An Unfinished Da Vinci Influenced Tarkovsky’s Last Movie

Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1986 Sacrifice, begins with a shot of Leonardo Da Vinci’s unfinished painting of The Adoration of The Magi. With Mary in the center, holding Jesus, the kneeling Magi, chaos in the background and a tree in the center, Tarkovsky sets up his film with this religious painting. The film explores spirituality, loss of meaning, faith, and the essential human need for a spiritual connection. Tarkovsky translates and depicts this spiritual yearning and spiritual need through his film, through art. Religious as it is, even an unbeliever can appreciate it. 0:00 The Adoration of the Magi | Introduction 2:58 Tarkovsky’s The Sacrifice 9:25 Art as Spirituality If you enjoy watching our videos, and would like to support us, check us out on Patreon: #andreitarkovsky #arthistory #art
