Chicago ~ Street Player 1979 Disco Purrfection Version

“Street Player“ was originally written by Danny Seraphine and Hank Wolinksi then recorded by Rufus & Chaka Khan for their “Street Player“ LP of 1978. Tony Maiden handled the lead vocals and Chaka added her formidable voice on backgrounds. Ironically Serphine was a former drummer for Chicago. Rufus had lost their drummer Andre Fischer and they brought in the Gap Band’s drummer Richard “Moon“ Calhoun for “Street Player“. Chicago had suffered the loss of Terry Kath in January of 1978 and led the band to consider breaking up. They welcomed Donnie Dacus into the band and set about recording Chicago 13 releasing three singles “Alive Again“, “No Tell Lover“ and “Gone Long Gone“.
