The tactical nuclear weapon drills ordered by President Putin are a “response mechanism in case NATO enters a war with Russia.” This is as per a Russian defence analyst quoted in a report by the state-owned news agency Sputnik. Igor Korotchenko said Russia was rehearsing the “practical mechanisms” of tactical nuclear weapon use should the need for such a move arise. These include the delivery of presidential authorisation to the troops, unlocking the warheads, flight data input and targeting, he said. Moscow said the drills were made necessary by the tensions in Europe and the hostile actions of the United States and European powers.
