A very old Christmas song - “Maria Durch Ein Dornwald Ging“ | Quadro Nuevo & Tim Collins

“Maria Durch Ein Dornwald Ging” is possibly one of the oldest Christmas songs known. The first official published version is from 1850, but there are references to what could be the same song as early as 1608. The title translates roughly to “Maria went through a thorny forest” - referring to the biblical figure of Mary. The song became associated with Advent in Germany in the 1800s and has been widely sung in churches and choirs ever since. This video is a composite of all 12 concerts we played throughout Germany in December, plus drone footage (credit to Andreas Hinterseher) of the Chiemsee and Fraueninsel. The audio is taken directly from the camera - what you see is also what you are hearing. 12 different performances of the song stitched together. Quadro Nuevo have been performing together for 25 years, and I’m happy to be playing with them for the last two years or so. The studio recording of this song can be found on the album “December” Stream it here: https://glmm
