Why I love Mountain Unicycling

I love Mountain unicycling. It brings with it a sense of absurdity, adventure, challenge and the unknown plus It’s so simple, all you need is a unicycle, backpack, somepads, water and a mountain. Half the fun is hiking up the mountain enjoying the fresh air and having the trail reveals itself to you; palms sweaty with the thought that you may really get hurt on the way down, still you plot and scheme your path down wondering: is this rideable, maybe I can take this line, I think I’ll have to walk this part, there’s no way I could ride it - or is there? Despite all the variables you know - gravity, confidence, some skill, luck and knowing when to bail will truly determine how you make it down the mountain. In the end the view from the top and the fact you’re going to try your damndest to make it down the mountain on the unicycle make the trip worthwhile. Mountain unicycling is all about knowing your limits and I exceeded mine here and paid the price. I took off with my cranks in the wrong position so when I hit the ground the unicycle bucked me off like a bull and I landed on my shoulder in a bad way. This was definitely the worst fall I’d taken in recent memory. But that’s just mountain unicycling. Despite the injuries and falls every time I make it to the bottom of a mountain on a unicycle I feel like I’ve accomplished something special. Thank you so much for watching - I hope you can find your mountain to ride down - please like and subscribe and I’ll see you next time.
