Corvette C8.R GTE Race Car: Accelerations, Loud Downshifts & Flat-Plane LT6 V8 Sound!

After the 9X8, the second car that I was most interested in during the Monza 6H was the Corvette C8.R. This because I’ve never had the chance to properly record the American GTE-class car, even its previous iterations, plus I was curious to hear and see in person the new ’controversial’ Corvette generation in action. In fact the C8 is the first production Corvette to have a rear mid-engine configuration instead of the typical front-engine layout. Stylistically I really like how the car looks in its racing form, but still I have to metabolize the look of the ’standard’, road legal car. The second point of discussion is of course its sound, at least on the C8.R and on the Z06 version. These two cars adopts a new designed , naturally-aspirated DOHC V8 engine, called LT6, which departs from the traditional pushrod valves and crossplane crank of the previous generations of Chevrolet small-block engines by featuring dual overhead camshafts and a flat-plane crank. And this last detail makes the C8.R to have a more ’European’ sound instead of the typical cross-plane roar we were used to with the C7.R, C6.R etc. It actually remembers me of a low revving Ferrari F430 GT2/GTC but also it has the tone of a more recent 488 GT3/GTE. I really like those explosive and loud downshifts. Corvette Racing developed and fielded the C8.R in the IMSA SportsCar Championship GT Le Mans (GTLM) class starting with the 2020 season. The car was built to LM GTE specifications as per GTLM rules. In 2022, the GTLM class in the IMSA SportsCar Championship was replaced by the GT Daytona Pro (GTD Pro) class using GT3 machinery. As Corvette did not have any GT3 cars on the market (with the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R not debuting until 2024), the C8.R was allowed to run in the GTD Pro class using a GTD kit. This year for the first time Corvette Racing also entered the WEC for the entire season. #CorvetteC8R #C8R #CorvetteRacing -------------------------------------------------------------- -- Subscribe to my 2nd channel here: You can also find and follow me on: - Flickr: - Facebook: - Instagram: Camcorder: Canon Legria GX10 Canon DM-100 Microphone Event: WEC 6 Hours of Monza 2022 Where: Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Italy Link To My Channel: THANKS FOR WATCHING AND SUBSCRIBE!!!
