Rail in the USA - Fall 2023 - Video No.9 DURANGO TO SILVERTON BY RAIL

I returned to Durango from Chama on the afternoon of 30 September 2023 and I was at the depot early the following morning ready to catch the a.m. train to Silverton and back. With the exception of the first couple of scenes in Durango and the final scenes in Silverton this video is filmed from the train. But don’t be fooled, the footage is wonderful! The journey takes us across the river flats as far as Hermosa before we commence the climb to Rockwood. This is followed by the descent into the Animas River gorge. For the next 50 plus miles we steam up the gorge towards Silverton. The real-life journey takes three and a half hours, while this video takes just one and jam packed full of spectacular mountain scenery. It’s a wonderful ride! The return leg of the journey will be covered in the next video in the series.
