The word “Muslim“ translates to one who submits their will to God Why do Muslims call God “Allah“? In Arabic, “Allah“ translates to “the God“. It was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) over the course of 23 years. Usually God would give verses of the Quran to Angel Gabriel who would pass the message to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) spread the message to his companions and they memorized the Quran by heart during those 23 years, and it was not until after Prophet Muhammad’s death that it was compiled into an actual book. We were instructed to memorize the Quran to help prevent it from getting changed or corrupted.
