The single was successful in Scandinavia and in the European German-speaking countries in the same year. Песню совместными силами сочинили три основателя группы Alphaville, известные под сценическими именами Франк Мертенс, Бернхард Ллойд и Мариан Голд. Произошло это в 1982 году. Они же записали демоверсию Forever Young. Собственно, таким же было первое название их коллектива, которое они позже изменили на Alphaville. Пытаясь понять, о чём песня Forever Young, нужно принять во внимание, в какое время она была написана. В начале восьмидесятых годов холодная война еще не закончилась.
