Jenny Pluck Pears

Jenny Pluck Pears is an English Country Dance first published in Playford’s English Dancing Master of 1651. It was adapted by Cecil Sharp in 1911. It is a 3 couple circle dance with no progression. Found in The Playford Ball. It is a modified USA dance. The tune also called, “Jenny Pluck Pears“ was published by Playford with the dance. It was performed by Bare Necessities (Earl Gaddis, Mary Lea, Peter Barnes, and Jacqueline Schwab) on the album “A Playford Ball“. It is used with permission of Country Dance Society, Boston Centre, Inc. The animation plays at 109 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance is slowed down so people can learn the figures more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color will change each time through the minor set.
