How Fantasy Sword Fighting Lacks Subtlety

How much realism can you really expect from animations / fight choreography in videos games and movies? There are certainly limitations, depending on the genre, setting, and artistic vision. Sometimes realism would make the story or gameplay less epic and engaging, or even boring or tedious. I sure don’t want too much of that in my Castlevania games, for instance. :) But sometimes it can spice things up by deviating from standard RPG tropes. Or it can be right at home in gritty dark fantasy. Either way,
