A single dedicated to the most elegant, legendary and mysterious weapon of the Vendel era: “sword with a ring“ (“hringsverd“).
A unique feature of the weapon that distinguishes it from other Merovingian-type swords was the decorative element of the pommel of the handle in the form of two rings threaded into each other. The rings on the pommel are always arranged asymmetrically. The meaning and functionality of the rings are in question. Perhaps the decoration carries a ritual, oath motive.
