Philippe Jaroussky & Thibaut Garcia perform Bonfá: Manhã de carnaval (from Orfeu Negro)

Countertenor Philippe Jaroussky and guitarist Thibaut Garcia come together in the bossa nova “Manhã de Carnaval“ by Luiz Bonfá, from the original soundtrack of 1959 film Orfeu Negro (Black Orpheus). Discover this and more on À sa guitare: Their first album together sees them as a “two-man solo act“, voice and guitar, a duo that transcends the ages. The program features works from across 400 years of musical tradition, with many original arrangements that bring a new perspective on their sources. On the strictly classical side, among the best-known items are Dido’s lament “When I am laid in earth“, Schubert’s hair-raising “Erlkönig“, and the brilliant Rossini aria “Di tanti palpiti“. From nearer our own time, there are such numbers as “Alfonsina y el mar“ by the Argentinian Ariel Ramírez (celebrated for his folk mass Misa Criolla) and the wistful “Septembre“ by the legendary Parisian chansonnière Barbara.
