Александр Черкавский - It was a for our rightfu king

It’s a Jacobite song (their aim was to restore the House of Stuart to the Monarchy). They believed that James was their rightful king and that his removal from power was illegal. It was originally a poem written by Robert Burns and set to music. It’s all about Jacobites who fled to Ireland and can never return to Scotland. By another version this song of exile is credited to Captain Ogilvie of Inverquharity, who escaped from Ireland to France with James VII in 1690 and enlisted in the service of Louis XIV. After the conquest of Ireland by William II many Irish soldiers enlisted in the French army in the hope that they would one day be able to return to Ireland as liberators.
