Morrowind - Vivec City (Fan Remake in Unreal Engine 5 | Early Work-In-Progress)
So this started out because I just wanted to do something a bit more simple and just make a little nature scene based on one of my favorite games, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. I figured I would just spend an hour on it or so and move on. Well, as I was putting the little scene together I thought it would be cool to see the silhouette of Vivec City in the background. So fast forward a couple weeks later, and I had recreated pretty much all of Vivec City... but in pretty much the same relatively low-res polygon count that the original was in (it’s practically 1:1), with some higher resolution textures that I made, although they’re still not too great. In fact, I would say overall the quality of mine is worse than the original, so I’m not really showing anything off here; I was having problems with the grid in Blender, therefore some of the modular building pieces do not snap perfectly. I also had some UV issues I haven’t yet corrected.
At any rate, this is only about 3 weeks of work total. I started working on it a couple months ago but just picked it up a few days ago. I didn’t really get to detailing the temple area yet, so I didn’t show that off too much, nor much of the landscape surrounding the city. The city is still pretty barren, I haven’t made any props aside from the hanging lantern (which has a dynamic light with subsurface scattering, as well as physics, which is overkill but fun to watch swing haha). I haven’t added any decals to the walls/floors to hide some of the texture tiling and add some detail. I did, however, make the map fully traversable, so you can walk around the cantons and go up the ramps, walk across the bridges, etc., so this is a fully functional map.
I’ve only just started to work on the landscape, so it looks pretty bad for now. I’ll probably work on this project for just a little bit longer and move on to something else. I do not own the rights to Morrowind, nor do I work for Bethesda, so there’s really no point in doing this except for learning. I never really intended to work on this in the first place, and honestly it’s very far from what I would consider to be in a presentable state. And that’s why I wanted to go ahead and present it to you haha, before I end up shortly abandoning it due to the scale & no point in doing much more! I’ll probably make one more video with this at some point soon.
Note, I made everything shown except for all of the foliage assets (the mushroom was a hybrid of a couple different assets), the character model of the knight, the boat, the water material, and the dynamic weather system. All of these, except for the mushroom cap, can be found on the Unreal Marketplace.
Lastly, I am aware that my texture streaming pool is over budget... =D
