David Russell plays the guitar arrangement of Isaac Albeniz’s piece “Cataluna“ from the latter’s “Suite espanola“ Op. 47. It is interesting to note that Albeniz combined a typical Spanish melody with the Renaissance/Baroque rhythmic pattern of the Courante dance (traditionally written in 3/2 time signature): it is the essence of the Musical Nationalism movement which flourished in Europe during the 19th century.
